The Sunoco Super Series will take the event over from the American Speed Association, who had sanctioned the Winchester 400 from 1970 until 1992, and again from 2000 through 2002. The NASCAR All-Pro Series sanctioned the event from 1993 through 1998. The Sunoco Super Series sanctioned the Winchester 400 in 1999 under its former name the Kendall Late Model Series, with the understanding that ASA would take over the event in 2000. With ASA deciding not to return as the sanctioning body for the event in 2003, Charlie Shaw turned to Ed Friddle and the Sunoco Super Series to continue the proud tradition of the greatest short-track stock car event in the Mid-west.

“I am very proud to have the Sunoco Super Series sanctioning the 34th Annual Car Brite 400,” explained Charlie Shaw. “Winchester Speedway has been a part of the series since it started in 1997, they have earned the right to take on this prestigious event. The series did a good job in 1999 with the 400, with the progress the series has made since then, I have no doubt that the 34th Annual Car Brite 400 will be a great race! I am also very proud to have Ed Friddle working with us on this historical event that he helped start thirty three years ago!”

Friddle, the owner of the regional Car-Brite Professional Reconditioning Products Distributorship, made a very successful return to promoting Motorsports this past season with the spectacular Car-Brite 200 Sunoco Super Series event at Winchester Speedway which was ran as a support event for the 33rd Annual Winchester 400. The Car-Brite 200 was voted by series fans, by far, as the most outstanding Sunoco Super Series event of the 2002 season by a recent pole on the series web site.

“It took a lot of hard work from several people to make the Car-Brite 200 as big a success as it was,” commented Friddle. “I used the same promoting tactics that I used back in 1970, you have got to go out and beat the bushes in this whole area to get the fans to this event. Promoters quickly forget that they are providing entertainment not just racing. The Car-Brite 200 was a great event because the fans were provided great entertainment leading up to a great race. We will use this same format for the 34th Annual Car Brite 400, people can plan on a great weekend of fun and great racing with the Sunoco Super Series and the USA Modifieds!

It was previously announced that the USA Modifieds will have a 200-lap event on Saturday, October 4, 2003 in support of the 34th Annual Car Brite 400. That event will be the longest race the USA Modifieds have ever had, and will be the first time that series has ever had live pit-stop action involved with their racing.

Brian Ross, a two-time Sunoco Super Series Champion, won the 30th Annual Winchester 400 sanctioned by the Sunoco Super Series in 1999. Ross beat his brother Scott, who was driving his brothers backup car. 2002 NASCAR All-Pro Champion, and Winchester Speedway veteran driver Jeff Fultz finished third in that event. Former ASA competitor and current Sunoco Super Series veteran Chet Blanton had his best series finish ever with his fourth place finish. David Ecoff, a part-time series driver for several seasons, finished fifth after starting twenty-ninth, which was also his best ever series finish. 2002 ASA Rookie Of The Year David Stemme also competed in that event, but had his day end early on lap 81 with mechanical problems.
