Surviving the First Lap:
Leave yourself plenty of room between you and the car in front of you
on the start. Leaders will be in traffic within a very few laps.
Yellow Flag:
Yellow all over the track, so close-up so safety crews can work on
track. No scrubbing of tires under caution until the flagman gives
"two to go" (this is to protect safety workers on the track during the
caution period). Get single file and stay single file. You cannot come
to the pits until the pace car and you have passed the
start-finish line. The field is frozen when the caution is called.
Positions will be determined by the last lap scored only when a
visual determination cannot be made at the time the yellow flag is
called. The only time you race back to the line is when the white flag
has been displayed to the leader. If an accident happens after the
white flag has been displayed to the leader, the yellow lights will
also come on but you still race back. Only in an extreme situation
will we not race back, and if that is the case, the red flag will be
displayed. The break will feature a white flag at lap 99 and checkered
at 100.
Pitting Procedure:
You must stay single file behind the pace car during the cautions.
Cars pitting in 1 & 2 may pull down to the inside to pit, only
after the pace car and you have crossed the start finish
line. Cars pitting in 3 & 4 may pull down to the inside to pit only
after the pits have been opened and you have crossed the
start finish line behind the pace car. Cars pitting in 3 & 4 must wait
to pull down until the middle of the backstretch when the cars in 1 &
2 have pulled onto pit road. You cannot pass the pace car to pit until
you pass the middle of the turn you pit in. The pace car driver will
try and help motion you into the pits at that line in the center of
the turn. You must be past the stop and go man before the pace car
gets back to that line in middle of your turn to not lose a lap.
Do not disregard the Stop and Go Man at the end of your pit road.
Lapped Cars:
When the caution comes out, do not pass leader unless told to by race
control.
Red Flag:
All cars remain on track – if you work on car, push car to your pit
and return at the tail of the field. There will be no working on
racecars on the track.
In Case of Fire:
Get to the bottom of track. Firemen all around track.
Black Flag:
Go to your pit. Your scoring will stop until situation is rectified.
Check with spotter.
Pit Stops:
Use common sense on number of people
used on a pit stop. Any pit stop technique or practice that is not
traditional in nature will not be allowed. ALL cars may come to the
pits the first time by that the pits are open for them. The order that
cars exit pit road is the order they should be in on the restart (no
passing cars after leaving pit road). Turns one and two: enter
pits from turn two, exit pits from turn one. Turns three and four:
enter pits from turn four, exit pits from turn three.
Cars Out of Race:
Push all cars that are out of the race to the infield area at each end
of track.
All Crews:
Crewmembers cannot come onto the racing surface for any reason. Major
penalties, including disqualification, may be imposed.
Restarts:
Restarts will always take place at the line in turn 4. The restarts
will be double file with lapped cars to the inside and up front or at
the tail. Lapped cars cannot be in the outside lane. Lapped cars will
not move to the inside until the flagman has given the two to go
signal, and lapped cars will drop down at the line at that time. If
you, as a lapped car, fail to drop down and try to later, you may not
go back up and get what would have been your original restart poison.
Do not be confused by thinking someone is going double file when they
are actually just going to the pits…wait for the two to go signal from
the flagman and drop down then at the line. The leader should
gradually and steadily increase his pace after the pace car has
dropped off in the backstretch. No slowing, brake checking or decrease
in acceleration rate
Lucky Dog:
At the time the caution comes out, the first car behind the leader 1
lap down will be deemed to be the Lucky Dog (as long as he is not the
cause of the yellow or the one deemed to be responsible for it). He
will stay in his position throughout the caution period (he may pit if
he elects to), until the flagman displays two to go, and then proceed
around the pace car to restart on the tail of the field. If there are
no cars 1-lap down at the time of the caution, we will go to the first
car two laps down, and so on. No Lucky Dog will be awarded in the last
10 laps of the race.
Slow Cars:
Must be on the bottom just above the white line...do not race below
the white line. If you cannot keep your car on the bottom in the
corners then SLOW DOWN. Slow cars must stay low coming off of turns.
Do not let car drift out toward the wall. Run straight lines. On
restarts, lapped cars that create problems for lead lap cars will be
penalized with a stop and go penalties or whatever necessary. We will
not tolerate cars with no legitimate shot of getting their lap back
that make problems for the lead lap cars. Let the leaders go by on the
outside and then resume racing.
Last 5 Laps:
Must be green but not consecutive. Single file restarts in last 10
laps, lead lap cars in front.
Tires: You
must start the race on the tires you qualify on. You will be allowed 6
tires in your pit area but you may only use 2 marked tires
during the break, and marked or unmarked tires for approved flats any
time during the race. The 4 extra tires are for emergency use only on
approved flats… You may not use tires from another team, used or new,
during the break. These are the rules for tire usage. Officials will
be inspecting the tires you have in your pits before and after the
race, as well as tracking your usage during the race. We will not
tolerate any attempts to circumvent these rules.
There will be NO approved flats at the break!
Two Scoring Systems:
Do not leave before returning transponder to the tech trailer...$400
PENALTY. Scorers are also in tower doing lapped cars and line
scoring. Race control will try to inform teams about faster lapped
cars so that lead lap cars can make informed decisions during the
race.
Spotters:
Drivers keep your spotters patient and polite, and spotters, keep your
drivers the same. Spotters must have numbers large on their backs and
must have scanner to monitor race control.
Post Race:
Top 5 must go to the front stretch following the checkered flag. Do
not touch car until told to by an official. The top 5 cars (and any
others at official’s discretion) may be weighed AFTER the race
(re-fueling permitted). Additional tech may take place, including use
of the "referee".
